Description: A pair of long-legged maras, a South American rodent related to guinea pigs and capybaras but bigger, are having lunch in a zoo. They’re snacking on fresh vegetables and maybe other vegetable-ish foods, including green leafy stuff. The one in the back is munching from a trough, hindquarters lowered, and the one closer to us is more crouched, front body lowered as it investigates, um, something pale. Joining them, hard to see on their sandy-rocky ground, are a pair of plump well-fed sparrows at the right of the photograph, dropping by fearlessly to see if there’s anything the maras are willing to share.
